Interparental Conflict:The Long Term-Effects on Children's Well-Being


It is very seldom that families are conflict-free between their children. Parents are commonly engaged in heated emotions or arguments which result in interparental conflict. But, parents' use this as their communication style and is assumed as productive for their kids. On the other hand, children have experienced emotional disturbances in general which lead to behavioral difficulties. Despite of these conflicting views, psychologists have concluded that this type of misunderstanding is somehow healthy because it is a wise and better gauge of the various adjustments of children. Numerous researchers had significant findings that it gravely affects the overall psychological well-being of innocent kids.

It has been estimated that  an interparental conflict has an estimated percentage between 4-20 percent. To date, when a family experiences other stressors other related problems arise. For instance,when children witnessed anger they can be aversive which leads to increased arousal distress, aggression, long-term adjustments and difficulties which include academic and emotional problems if not immediately resolved. Children who are clueless on how to deal with interparental conflict are most vulnerable to externalize their own problems. Moreover, the other negative effects of this dilemma are the following: 

Poor interpersonal skills and poor academic performance.In lieu of this, there are various ways on how to resolve it. First and foremost, both husband and wife should settle their rifts or differences between themselves. Furthermore, they should keep their communication lines open with their children. Most importantly, couples must see a licensed love or marriage counselor for a series of family therapy sessions.

An interparental conflict is indeed resolvable with the generous help of  significant support groups such as family and friends. Let us provide a healthy, happy and harmonious relationship to keep them blessed with a satisfying and active lifestyle until they will be able to  reach the summit of their holistic development.
